Tips for job seekers

UNCOVERING GREAT OPPORTUNITIES THAT ARE NEVER POSTED OR ADVERTISED

While there are thousands of jobs posted on millions of job boards and classified sites every day, are these really the best opportunities available to you? Companies will pay a recruiting firm top dollar to find them the candidates that are not actively looking or advertising themselves by sticking their resume on the job boards. They want to hire the best person for the job, not just the best person looking for a job. There is a difference. They know they would be seriously limiting their candidate pool if they just relied on the “actively looking” pool. So they will hire a recruiter to find them the best person out there, not just the best of the “actively looking”, and many companies won’t even waste the time to post and advertise their jobs. They’ll go straight to the recruiting firm.

So flip this around. If you are interested in a new opportunity, why limit your pool of available jobs just to the ones that are posted? There are many unadvertised opportunities out there that you need to tap into. Recruiters have relationships with companies that can open those doors for you. Recruiters have numerous openings that are never advertised by their clients. Recruiters also know when a client company might even be open to topgrading. Topgrading is the practice of creating the highest quality workforce by ensuring that talent acquisition and talent management processes focus on identifying, hiring, promoting, and retaining high performers. If a recruiter has what they think is an A player, they will bring that person to their client as a potential topgrade hire for them.

Allowing a recruiter to help you in your job search can open up many new opportunities for you. If you’ve tried to get an interview with a company that has been on your radar but you have had no luck in doing so, you should tell this to a reputable recruiter that you trust. There is a chance that recruiter has a relationship with that company already, or if not, good recruiters are more apt to have a way of approaching the company to ensure you can get in front of the right decision maker at that company.
