I just read that in a recent Jobvite survey, over 40% of companies said they reconsidered candidates based on the content of their social media profiles. My guess it is higher than that, and recruiters use social media as way to FIND candidates, so we see it all the time! Often social media is our first impression of people so we’ll just pass over the ones that show drunken photos, or text that is indicative of a negative person who is not happy.
It amazes me to see the things people put on their Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Instagram etc. “The internet is forever” is true. Employers check this stuff out. They want to know who they’re hiring. If you put things on your social media site that show you acting badly, drinking, cursing, acting like a fool, you will not get the job (or at least a real job). You might as well get a tattoo on your face that says “I’m an idiot.”
So people please, clean up your social media.
